New Improved Ezy-Drain System from Kingspan Environmental

Posted: Thursday 7th January 2010

Ezy-Drain, the light-weight, sustainable solution for septic and treatment plant soakaways is being relaunched by Kingspan Environmental, following some product modifications to make it even more user-friendly.

Ezy-Drain attracted considerable interest when it was first launched 18 months ago, offering as it did an alternative to the labour-intensive, costly and time-consuming activity of installing traditional herring-bone drainage soakaways.

Its simple configuration of sections of perforated plastic pipe surrounded by a synthetic aggregate wrapped in polyethylene netting proved very popular because of the speed and ease of its installation.

Now, Ezy-Drain is being relaunched with slight changes in response to feedback from installers.

The twin wall, perforated pipework has been reduced in diameter, to 110mm so the pipes can now be connected together using standard 110 click-fit connectors, as supplied by all main pipe manufacturers. .

The pipes are also being supplied in shorter, two-metre lengths making them easier to put widthways across a typical truck bed and more suitable for ‘tighter’ runs in smaller spaces such as a back garden herring.

Kevin Roe, Kingspan Environmental’s GB Sales Director for pollution control products, says: “Ezy-Drain is an extremely lightweight system that can be quickly installed by a single person up to four times faster than any time-honoured, gravel-based solution without the need for aggregate or specialist skills. The only manual labour involved is the backfilling of the trenches prior to operation.

“We’ve taken on board all the positive comments and some constructive feedback that we received from installers and merchants in making our recent modifications to the product. These should make it easier both to handle and store.”

The synthetic aggregate is manufactured from recycled expanded polystyrene, engineered to deliver for optimum performance while consistently retaining its form. The storage and flow characteristics of the synthetic aggregate make it highly effective at treating effluent and less likely to clogged up.

The cost of installation is far less than a gravel-based system due to both the speed of installation and the need for only one operative and minimal plant.

What’s more, in terms of environmental impact, the use of recycled waste materials makes Ezy-Drain a very sustainable solution.
