Innovative New Product Launches for Water Safety Industry

An innovative new product has been launched to manage and record routine maintenance checks for water safety in the facilities management industry. eLogger, an electronic log book system, is an internet based service which allows staff and managers to view compliance checks of even remote sites for maintenance routines.

According to the Health and Safety executive, poor compliance within routine maintenance inspections is a common cause of serious incidents, including outbreaks of legionnaires disease. eLogger has been launched to address issues like this. With the introduction of the Corporate Manslaughter Act in 2007, senior management and company directors are now personally responsible for exercising oversight of the systems that maintain a safe workplace. This means that businesses must have a maintenance plan and senior management must ensure that the plan is fulfilled and accurate records maintained.

eLogger is used in a number of organisations including Kingston University in Surrey. The system was launched at Kingston following a routine health and safety check which revealed a number of areas that could be tightened up. The eLogger team worked directly with the Health & Safety Manager at the University to implement new procedures.

Ian Appleford, Health & Safety Manager at Kingston University, explains: “eLogger is a valuable management tool as it provides us with unequivocal evidence of what's being done and an audit trail.”

The eLogger system is simple to use. As maintenance checks are completed the status can be updated using hand held devices. This saves both money and time by avoiding transfers of information from paper systems to electronic. The maintenance schedules are held within the eLogger system, allowing site based staff to plan and prioritise their work. eLogger will automatically identify overdue items and allow the printing of compliance reports. The system is simple and easy to use for non-technical staff.
