Flex-Seal and MacInnes Take Flight at Inverness!

Posted: Tuesday 14th March 2006

Flex-Seal, part of the Fernco group of companies (USA), has supplied MacInnes Brothers of Benbecula with a broad range of underground drainage solutions that have been installed into the recent redevelopment of Inverness Airport (Scotland).

MacInnes Brothers are a leading Scottish contractor and having been awarded the contract to install a new pipework system into Inverness Airport’s runway, MacInnes Brothers approached Flex-Seal to provide a range of drainage products required for the project.

“We have been using Flex-Seal products for a number of years now and having won the Inverness Airport contract we had no hesitation in approaching them to provide a wide range of drainage products for this high profile project,” states Ewen MacInnes, Managing Director of MacInnes Brother.

Inverness Airport’s runway has undertaken significant development following the recent recommendations from the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA). SEPA approached Inverness Airport regarding the runway pollution that was affecting the local rivers. The decision was taken to introduce a new runway drainage system that would be controlled by a series of Flowmeters which will measure the flow of water throughout the pipelines. Flex-Seal supplied a range of Standard Couplings and Bushes that would connect the Flowmeters to the pipe, thereby providing a permanent and watertight seal along the system.

Flex-Seal provide the most extensive range of Standard Couplings available in the marketplace and have revolutionised traditional pipe repair and connection methods over the years. Standard Couplings are specifically designed to connect pipelines of different materials or sizes used in sewerage, drainage and other underground applications.

“This is the first time Flex-Seal Standard Couplings have been used to connect Flowmeters to any type of pipe and provides an exciting new opportunity for the company,” states Jim McGeorge, Flex-Seal’s Area Manager for Scotland.

Due to the large diameter differences on the project Flex-Seal also supplied a range of suitably sized bushes to act as an adaptor on the non pressure pipes and enabled the efficient installation of the Standard Couplings. Flex-Seal bushes meet the Water Industry Specification (WIS) standard and can be manufactured to suit specific site and application requirements.

MacInnes Brothers purchased the Flex-Seal range from the Muir of Ord branch of Burdens Ltd, a leading specialist in the sourcing and distribution of civil engineering materials for infrastructure markets.

“The Inverness Airport redevelopment is an important project for MacInnes Brothers in terms of its size and prestige. It was imperative that we used an experienced supplier who could provide the best range of quality drainage products as and when required. Flex-Seal have continuously proved to be the global leader in the manufacture, design and marketing of flexible couplings and we look forward to developing our long term partnership with Flex-Seal as new projects and opportunities emerge in the future,” Ewen MacInnes concludes.

Flex-Seal, part of the Fernco group of companies (USA), are a global provider of high performance pipe connection and repair solutions including flexible couplings used in low and non pressure applications, PVC plumbing products, flexible saddles, ancillary products, channel drainage and no dig pipe repair systems.
