Wincanton and Arlington Packaging offer water authorities one-stop solution for emergency shortages

Leading supply chain provider, Wincanton, has worked with Arlington Packaging to launch a service that provides water authorities across the UK with a unique delivery system that minimises the impact of water shortages.
Arlington’s unique 1,000 litre container system, the Combo, when used alongside Wincanton’s transport planning systems, can provide kerb-side delivery of clean drinking water across the UK, as well as bottles to those in remote locations or areas with restricted access.
The Combo in conjunction with the 100% recyclable single use polyethylene liner, is an alternative to traditional blue titan tanks used to provide water in emergency situations. As the system is sealed and each liner is only used once, the need for time consuming swab testing for contaminants is negated. Other benefits include a tough outer casing to protect against adverse weather conditions that can also be packed flat to conserve space when not being used.
Steve Gornall, General Manager, Wincanton, commented: “The severity of last year’s floods in Gloucester has made water authorities re-evaluate the systems and resources they use to protect the UK population from water shortages. We are continually assessing how we can offer them cost effective, bespoke solutions that can be scaled to an authority’s requirements.”
Harry Fairbank, Director, Arlington Packaging, said: “The Combo emergency water tank we have developed, is a resilient, sustainable option, already in use with many water authorities. Combined with Wincanton’s transport network, it can deliver safe drinking water to the remotest of locations, as well as meeting water company’s kerb-side delivery requirements.”
Following the severe weather conditions experienced in July 2007, water authorities are now under increasing pressure to ensure they have robust plans in place to fulfil legal obligations and ensure the provision of essential water supplies.
