WaterAid Launches Sanitation Animation
WaterAid are launching a 3D animation illustrating how communities eliminate the problem of “open defecation” and the disease burden that comes with it. It illustrates how sanitation works at a rural or small town community level. The animation is set in rural Bangladesh and will hopefully be a useful tool for awareness raising, inspiring local partners working in the field and educating students.
The animation outlines the problems caused by open defecation and specifies ten steps that communities can take to achieve ‘open defecation free status’, bringing about a reduction in disease. It attempts to crystalise WaterAid’s approach to community led sanitation and simplify a sometimes complex subject matter. The animation was animated by The Bio Agency who used a special technique to bring life to still images.
“This animation is a really exciting tool that effectively illustrates the key steps to helping a community to become an open defecation free zone. Hopefully it will inspire many local groups to adopt similar principles and assist in arresting one of the biggest killers of people in the developing world, poor sanitation.” Commented Gerry Adams, Head of Programme Support Unit for WaterAid.
