Truck investment drives expansion plans

Sykes Pumps is continuing to build on a record year in 2007 with an increased investment in new trucks to help transport its hire fleet to site. The new HiaB trucks feature a driver-operated crane, allowing the driving to lift equipment into position on site.

The move follows the recent announcement that the company is to spend £2.5 million this year on new pumps and sees the company re-investing following a 35% upturn in turnover last year.

As Paul Wood, managing director of Andrews Sykes, explains, “The investment in new trucks is part of a co-ordinated expansion plan designed to help us capitalise on business growth and ensure we maintain our excellent service levels as we continue to increase in size.

“Much of our growth last year is the result of long-term preferred supplier deals and these agreements are built on our service-led culture and ability to deliver the most suitable equipment in the required location within the specified time frame. Our investment in new pumps will ensure that we can continue to have kit available for clients when it’s needed and the addition of new trucks to our fleet will also mean that we can transport pumps between depots and clients’ sites as efficiently as possible.”

Wood continued: “Excellent fleet availability has been critical to our success over the past year and we are experiencing unprecedented business growth across a multitude of sectors, including significant new business gains in the water industry. We will continue to ensure that investment in the business keeps pace with growth to help us maintain our position at the forefront of the hire industry.”
