Strong US demand for ADSORBSIA™ GTO™ media driven by new EPA Arsenic Regulations

Efforts to meet the U.S. EPA’s new reduced arsenic levels dominated the agendas of public water treatment facilities across the U.S. in 2006, creating a growing demand for ADSORBSIA™ GTO™ titanium-based arsenic removal media from Dow Water Solutions. Currently, more than 25 public water systems in the U.S. are using ADSORBSIA media to reduce arsenic levels. Two new large installations in California and New Mexico are among additional systems scheduled for start-up in early 2007.

Based on Dow’s proprietary technology, ADSORBSIA arsenic removal media is a free-flowing granular adsorbent that holds the molecules of arsenic, allowing purified water to pass through. It maintains a strong hold on the removed arsenic, enabling efficient, safer and easier use and disposal.

Compared with other commercialized media, ADSORBSIA arsenic removal media features improved performance and capabilities including faster kinetics, faster flow rates and the least sensitivity to other contaminants, which allows for smaller, less expensive systems. It has the highest capacity over a range of water conditions and is therefore easily integrated into existing system designs without pretreatment.
ADSORBSIA media is currently used in drinking water system designs throughout North America, as well as in Europe and the Pacific. It has been installed in facilities providing potable water for communities, apartment buildings, schools, and private businesses, and has demonstrated success in a number of system designs ranging from 10 gallons per minute (gpm) to 1000 gpm.
