Severn Trent Water recently re-awarded Steelway Brickhouse a new two year framework deal to design, manufacture and deliver all of their mild steel access cover and frame requirements used on waste water applications.
The deal said to be worth over £1m is based around the new Steelway Brickhouse product range ‘Stamp-Lock’ which is suitable for all applications, such as pump, screen, valve and personnel access chambers. It is available both sealed and unsealed and can be used on both upstanding and flush fitting installations. Steelway Brickhouse has been supplying ‘wet-well’ application access covers to Severn Trent for the past five years. The new framework now covers all applications that require a steel access cover.
Severn Trent water serves approximately 8.0m customers over a geographical area spreading from the Bristol Channel to the Humber and from Mid Wales to the East Midlands. The number of mild steel access covers required to achieve goals set within their Asset Management Programme and Process Review Health & Safety initiative, led to the creation of a specification and framework to allow a structured and competitive approach based around one product to suit all applications. Danielle Jukes, who manages the steel access cover framework said ‘We wanted to standardise and reduce the number of variables within our access cover requirements. By doing so, it has made it far easier to specify and procure the right product for each of our applications. Steelway Brickhouse provided us with the right solution.’
The framework was awarded to Steelway Brickhouse following a process which included product investigations, site survey, on-site trials, technical capability and best value assessement. Steelway Brickhouse confirmed their commercial and technical capability to meet with Severn Trent’s specification and on-going obligations.
Stamp-Locks simple locking mechanism enables operators to open the housing with a screwdriver. Once the housing catch has been lifted, the utility padlock can be easily accessed enabling the operator to unlock and open the cover. To close the cover, the operator simply disengages the foot operated stay mechanism and lowers the cover to the frame. The locks will then automatically part engage enabling the padlock to be re-inserted prior to being fully closed. To fully close and secure, the operator simply stands on each locking mechanism housing catch, which via the internal cam device, pulls the cover firmly and securely back into place.
Steelway Brickhouse Sales & Marketing Director Andy Oliver, comments. “On the back of our Best In Class agreement, we have had success with Anglian Water who recently changed to ’Stamp-Lock’, so the timing could not have been better for theSevernTrentframework. ‘Stamp-Lock’ came about as part of our on-going Product Development strategy to improve and increase our existing product ranges.
We have worked with a number of water companies to highlight likes and dislikes associated with access covers from an operational point of view and have combined their findings with health and safety requirements to create this range. ‘Stamp-Lock’ is now a registered product, with patents applied for”
Steelway Brickhouse, formerly trading as Saint Gobain were a founder member of the Fabricated Access Cover Trade Association (FACTA) and are committed to providing products that perform under load. The range of ‘Stamp-Lock’ products are all certified to withstand design and wheel loadings in line with the FACTA classification table, grades A to D.
Lee Henley, Technical Sales Manager for Steelway Brickhouse and Deputy Chairman of FACTA stated “We looked at all options for the design performance of ‘Stamp-Lock’ but ultimately chose the one most relevant to the material characteristics of the product. FACTA continues to provide the most comprehensive and proven test regime for the continued performance of steel access covers.”
