Severn Trent scoops Utility of the Year award

Posted: Monday 24th October 2016

Severn Trent, which supplies water and waste water services to more than four million homes and businesses across the Midlands and mid-Wales, has been awarded the title of Utility of the Year by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) of England and Wales.

The company beat competition from across the country to take the title after undertaking concerted efforts to improve relationships with major developers, and after taking a leading role in developing a new code of practice for self-lay companies that build their own water and sewer pipes.

Steve Betteridge, Severn Trent's Head of Developer Services, said: "We're absolutely delighted to have taken this title, especially as it's further proof that we're putting our customers at the heart of everything that we do.

"But we're also very aware that we've got a long way to go - one of the ways we've improved our relationships with home builders is just by listening to them and establishing exactly where they think we need to improve.

"We can then go out and change the way we do things based on customer feedback, which makes sure we're making the right changes in the right areas."

According to the HBF, Severn Trent was awarded the Utility of the Year title because they demonstrated a willingness to engage with developers, and a keenness to innovate, as well as for introducing initiatives aimed at increasing competition in the sector.

The award was voted for by members of the HBF, which is the voice of the home building industry in England and Wales. HBF members deliver 80% of the new homes built every year.
