Save £200 a Year and Help the Environment

A new water and energy saving kit available via the Big Green Smile/Veolia Water joint website could save an average household about £200* a year on utility bills.
The Water and Energy Saving Kit costs just £24.99 and includes four easy-to-fit items – a shower aerator, shower timer, save-a-flush cistern pack and tap aerator. Once installed, these products can help people save money and water.
Big Green Smile’s Nick Buhler said “By using all the devices in the kit, customers can save up to 60 litres of water per day, reduce energy consumption and minimise their carbon footprint.
“About 25 per cent of energy used within the home is used to heat water so whenever people shower they are paying to heat water, pump it and the cost of the actual water used. Nobody wants to pour money down the drain.”
Veolia Water Three Valleys Customer Relations Director Richard Brimble said it was great to be able to offer customers a new way to reduce their household bills.
“We encourage customers to save water and minimise their costs because it is obviously good for them and good for the environment. Water is a very precious commodity, so we need to use it sensibly.”
Waterwise Director Jacob Tompkins has endorsed the new kit and said "This innovative pack is a must-have for every household in the UK to help reduce water wastage and assist people to reduce their utility bills.”
The Water and Energy Saving Kit contains:
- Shower aerator – fits new and existing showers to reduce the amount of water used by up to 70 per cent. It aerates the water (mixes it with air) as it comes through the shower head without loss of performance.
- Shower timer – a challenge to reduce shower time to four minutes, this will save around 5 litres of water and reduce energy consumption.
- Save-a-flush – put this displacement pack into a toilet cistern and save water with every flush, up to 11 litres a day.
- Tap aerator – fits most tap basins and can save 16 litres of water a day without affecting performance.
