Garside Sands, a specialist producer of graded silica sands, is pleased to announce that Colin Parke, General Manager of specialist silica sand businesses Garside Sands and Bucbricks Ardleigh Sands, has been appointed as President of The Silica and Moulding Sands Association (SAMSA).
SAMSA was founded in 1941 and remained an independent entity until the beginning of 2001 when it became a constituent body of the Quarry Products Association. Membership of the Association is open to silica sand extractors and processors and currently the membership represents ten of the UK’s leading producers.
Colin, who has been a member of SAMSA for the last six years, comments on the importance of the Association; “As an Association, we are constantly monitoring the wide range of issues facing our industry and are actively developing new guidelines to promote best practice. SAMSA’s core activities include raising awareness of this unique mineral, both within the general public with regards to the applications it is used in, and through lobbying key issues with government such as the aggregate levy. Sustainable development is also high on the agenda for all members.
“SAMSA also has strong links with Europe so a key objective is to raise members profiles not only in the UK but also in Europe, something we have all been working towards for some time.”
