Portsmouth Water is celebrating winning one of the prestigious RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards in 2011.

The Gold Medal (6 consecutive Golds) award was presented at a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, at the National Exhibition Centre, on Tuesday 17 May.

The RoSPA Awards scheme is not only about reducing the number of accidents and cases of ill-health at work; it also encourages organisations to develop robust health and safety management systems, including important practices such as strong leadership and workforce involvement.

David Rawlins, RoSPA awards manager, said: "Portsmouth Water has shown a commitment to protecting the health and well-being of its employees and others. Organisations which do this deserve to have such dedication recognised and that's where the RoSPA Awards come in. As well as there being clear ethical reasons and legal requirements for good health and safety management, there is also a strong business case. RoSPA is delighted to publicly honour organisations which have demonstrated their work to improve performance in this sphere."

Managing Director Nick Roadnight on hearing the news said “It is excellent news that we have been awarded the Gold Medal from RoSPA as part of their prestigious H&S Awards.

This award is high recognition of our achievements in Health and Safety over many years including the latest 2010 year. Our employees can be rightly proud of their efforts in helping make the Company a safer place.”
