Pitt to address The Future of Flood Management conference
Posted: Thursday 21st August 2008
Sir Michael Pitt has announced he will be speaking at the NCE Future of Flood Management conference, which takes place in London at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre on 4th November 2008. Sir Michael will be outlining his latest vision for meeting the flooding challenge, 6 months on from the official release of the Pitt Review.
Antony Oliver, Editor of NCE and the chair for the event said “ The Pitt Review has set the agenda for fighting the flooding problem, but we are yet to see how the industry will respond to the recommendations. I am very much looking forward to hearing from Sir Michael in person and discuss what action government, local authorities and water companies must take to make real progress on this crucial issue”.
NCE’s The Future of Flood Management conference opens with an address from Sir Michael Pitt, followed by perspectives from the sector and an open forum for discussion and questions. The event gives an update on the latest government initiatives including the new role of the Environment Agency in flood risk management; Defra’s Integrated Urban Drainage Pilots; and how to use the updated PPS25 guidelines. This conference also examines the effect of flooding on the insurance industry; the work of the Greater Manchester sub-regional flood risk assessment committee; and the lessons learned in Gloucestershire from last summer’s floods.
Speakers at the event include senior representatives from United Utilities, Environment Agency, Defra, Highways Agency, Communities and Local Government, Association of British Insurers, Scott Wilson and Gloucestershire County Council.
