New user group to improve alarm systems in UK water companies
Posted: Wednesday 11th March 2009
Alarm management is a critical business function. Alarm systems are an important tool in mitigating risk and meeting increasing obligations to health and safety, the environment, customers and business efficiency. As water companies continue to reduce site manning levels and move to more centralised management of operations, the need for effective and reliable alarm systems has never been greater.
Building on a recent collaboration with major UK Water Companies, WRc has launched the Water industry Alarm Systems Improvement Group (WASIG) which aims to improve the design, operation, maintenance and management of alarm systems. The work will initially focus on developing a more coherent and rigorous framework for alarm systems design and management. The group will collaborate with The Engineering Equipment and Materials Users Association (EEMUA) to provide UK water industry input to the latest edition of publication 191 which is widely recognised as the leading benchmark of best practice in industrial alarm systems. Companies participating in WASIG will be able to share engineering and operational experience and will be at the forefront of developing good industry practice.
