Business Stream, Scotland’s leading non-domestic water supplier, has hired Derek Johnston, the former UK technology manager at global energy company Iberdrola Group, as its head of IT.
Derek, who held several senior positions at Scottish Power before its acquisition by Iberdrola in 2007, will play a lead role in shaping Business Stream’s future IT investment to deliver additional customer value.
With more than two decades of experience in IT and senior management, Derek will help to ensure Business Stream’s 96,000 customers in Scotland receive the best possible service.
Derek said: “It’s an exciting time to be joining an organisation providing an essential service and one with great emphasis on the quality and availability of the IT systems required to support customer contact and issue resolution.
“IT is a key enabler in Business Stream’s future development, and as the leading supplier in the UK’s first competitive retail water market our priority is to deliver innovative, value-for-money services. Good IT systems are central to that and the impact will be apparent both within the organisation and directly with our customers.”
Mark Powles, chief executive of Business Stream, said: “As a customer-focused company in a competitive market with many opportunities, it’s important to have a strong team and, within that, first-class IT systems. Derek arrives with a proven track record for achieving strong results and we’re looking forward to seeing the impact of his role in the future success of Business Stream.”
