New contract for Staffordshire waste firm

Serious Waste Management, based in Burton on Trent, has been awarded the wastewater contract for all Marston PLC pubs.
It will include the operation and management of the sewage treatment plant, pumping stations, septic tanks, grease traps and grease management systems.
Up against stiff competition, Serious has retained this prestigious contract with Marston’s and is now entering its tenth year of operation.
Serious will continue to deal with all the drainage, sewage and wastewater needs of almost 500 pubs throughout the country as part of a six figure contract.
David Birkett, the Managing Director of Serious, said:” We are delighted to be able to continue working for a company that cares so passionately about the environment. They are as determined as we are to make sure that their maintenance and repairs to their wastewater systems are looked after properly and managed professionally without any risk of pollution”.
One of the challenges with pubs is to keep the business open while Serious deals quietly and quickly with equipment breakdowns, drains backing up and potential pollution threats.
“Pubs and restaurants have an enormous amount of grease to deal with,” David Birkett added. “We work with Marston’s to try to minimize the amount of grease that goes down the drain which should prevent problems at a later stage. We are both aware of the fact that building control officers, the water utilities and the Environment Agency are clamping down on establishments that do not comply with the strict regulations about grease and for those places that are not connected to main drainage, keeping them clear and in efficient working order is a challenge we relish.”
Andy Cutler of Marston’s added: “ We are delighted to continue working with Serious. They have proved themselves more than capable of reacting quickly and professionally to problems that our pubs have in any part of the country. Their passion for doing the job right and for protecting the environment makes them the ideal partners for us.”
