The waste experts, Serious Waste Management have appointed the former chairman of the Society of British Water and Wastewater Industries as their new Business Development Manager.

With over 30 years experience in the water and wastewater industry, Martyn Hopkinson started out as a Plumbing Advisor with PLC Ltd-now Morgan Syndall. He progressed through further site-based supervisory and management roles to hold senior management and board positions with contracting organisations delivering water and wastewater services, mainly to UK water and sewerage companies.

He was chairman and is still a director of the Society of British Water and Wastewater Industries and was also a founding member and chairman of the Private Sewers Forum.

Martyn said: I am very excited about joining Serious Waste Management. They have an excellent ethos of putting environmental concerns right at the top of the agenda and I know that there are new customers out there who want to deal with a company that takes their responsibilities seriously.

Managing Director of Serious, David Birkett, added: This is a key time for Serious. We have five depots covering nearly all of the country and our database that includes pubs, restaurants, businesses and residential customers is constantly growing. By having Martyn on board, it will help us to extend our service and deal with the challenges that new legislation such as the Water Framework Directive offers us.

Martyn, lives in Preston with his wife Paula. They have five grown up children and Martyn is a keen golfer and rugby fan.
