MWH expands in Europe with Dutch acquisition

Global engineering consultancy MWH has acquired the Dutch environmental services company Syncera BV as part of its European growth strategy.

Syncera is a medium-sized Dutch company with about 250 employees, established in 1983, with offices in Delft, Arnhem and Amsterdam. Its core business is environment and water consultancy and environmental engineering.

David Nickols, MWH President of the EMEAI region, said: “MWH intends to increase its market share in continental Europe, focusing initially on North West Europe. The Netherlands is a mature, developed market consistent with MWH’s other major markets.

“The Dutch environmental sustainability market is emerging as a world leader and there is a need for significant investment in the Netherlands to accommodate the impacts of climate change. For us, the Netherlands is a key part of our growth strategy, and Syncera is a leading player in the Netherlands market.”

The name Syncera will change to MWH by the spring of 2008, coinciding with an employee festival week to mark the transition and to celebrate Syncera's 25 years of doing business.

“The Syncera company philosophy and those of MWH are similar in many ways”, said Wim Drossaert, General Director of Syncera. “Both companies are owned by their own personnel and both are working on improving the quality of the environment they live in and have the desire to provide first-rate products and services.

“Syncera enriches MWH with its local ’colour', particularly in the areas of environmental thinking and local and regional knowledge. MWH bring added value with their numerous examples of expertise in water, environment and energy projects, risk, asset and programme management and strategic consulting in areas such as change management and programme evaluation.”
