Posted: Monday 6th November 2017

Mott MacDonald's technical director for hydrology Peter Ede has been elected President of the British Hydrological Society for the next two years.

With over 30 years' experience in the UK and over 30 countries worldwide, Peter is a recognised technical expert in hydrology. He specialises in catchment yield studies, reservoir operation, water resources management modelling and the assessment of climate change impacts on water resources. As part of his presidency, Peter will become a member of the UK Committee for National and International Hydrology, which provides a platform for bringing together the UK's national and international activities in the field of hydrology and water resources management.

The British Hydrological Society, an associated society of the Institution of Civil Engineers, is one of the world's leading hydrological professional organisations. Formed in 1983 in response to a clear need for a new, broad-based national society for the advancement of hydrology, the Society caters for everyone interested in the inter-disciplinary subject of hydrology. It aims to encourage good practice and scholarship in scientific and applied aspects of hydrology and to foster the involvement of members in national and international activities.

Commenting on his appointment, Peter said: "I'm delighted to receive this opportunity to contribute to the Society, at a time when the importance of hydrology to the development of housing, transport and other infrastructure is increasingly being recognised by the UK Government."

Sally Watson, Mott MacDonald's practice leader for water resources, added: "This is a significant appointment for Peter and reflects his highly-regarded reputation amongst British hydrologists. It is also a major honour for Mott MacDonald as several of our experts have served the Society since it was founded, however Peter is the first to take the position of President."
