Measuring the infrastructure in the Water Industry

With ten years experience in developing Key Performance Indicators for the construction industry Constructing Excellence in partnership with BERR (DTI) are planning to launch in March 2009 “KPICommunity” which will allow Water Companies to measure and benchmark their performance in a wide range of construction and maintenance activities that include Predictability Cost, Time, Satisfaction, Safety and environmental issues.
Not only would Water Companies be able to measure and compare their performance against similar projects they have undertaken, they will also be able to compare with data submitted by other Water Companies undertaking similar projects. Linked to UK Construction Industry performance data, national comparison can be made against the wider Construction Industry.
Constructing Excellence are enhancing the usefulness of the 'KPICommunity' by developing a web based measurement tool for Key Performance Indicators specially tailored for water industry construction activities.
A number of Water Companies including Anglian Water have already committed their time and experience in assisting with its development.
Constructing Excellence has also demonstrated a prototype system to Ofwat. 'KPICommunity' should be an excellent opportunity for water companies in England and Wales to further develop Performance Measurement and exchange Best Practice for their considerable construction related activities, said Ofwat. Ofwat already sets incentives for water companies to deliver capital expenditure efficiencies for the benefit of their customers. This proposed development, said Ofwat, would be another useful tool to drive continual improvement in construction commissioned by the sector.
Constructing Excellence in partnership with BERR (DTI) is delighted that Ofwat recognises the potential for the water sector to benchmark its performance in support of increasing construction efficiency.
