Major award for UV specialists GB Environmental

Posted: Wednesday 19th December 2007

Ultraviolet (UV) technology experts GB Environmental has received a major award in recognition of the company’s ground-breaking advances within the sector. The Essex-based firm received the Frost & Sullivan ‘European Excellence in Technology of the Year Award’ in the field of UV technology for environmental applications at a gala ceremony in December.

Frost & Sullivan’s Excellence in Technology Award is bestowed upon a company that has pioneered the development and introduction of innovative technology. In GB Environmental’s case, the award recognised the patented UV treatment process that the company has developed for the disinfection of air, water and surfaces. This method has a unique photocatalytic-oxidation process which uses cleaning heads that revolve around the lamps and react with fouling material to keep the tubes spotlessly clean; bond-breaking without the need for additional chemicals. Additionally, the lamps are very efficient at converting electrical energy into UV light.

In order to select the award recipient, Frost & Sullivan’s analyst team tracks technology innovation in key hi-tech markets. The selection process included primary participant interviews and extensive research to determine the worthy recipient.

On receiving the award, GB Environmental was praised for its “sustained efforts at the development of effective UV technology to combat microbes in air and water systems” and as a “key innovator of UV technology.” The company’s products find application in drinking water treatment, swimming pools, hospitals, buildings and food manufacture.

GB Environmental’s Managing Director Ron Mitchell, says “We are delighted to be named winners in this extremely prestigious category. It is recognition of the advances we have made over recent years in UV technology and the award shows how highly the industry regard the work we have been doing. I feel that this accolade is testament to the hard work of our staff who are always looking to break new ground and to pioneer new developments.”
