High efficiency motors

WIMES compliant high efficiency 315kW 6P electric induction motors from WEG have been supplied to Clyde Pumps for pumping treated water at a refurbished water treatment plant at Clareville, Co. Limerick, Ireland, for a project for Veolia Water Ireland.

Frank Chisholm, of Clyde Pumps commented: “We selected WEG motors because they are high efficiency and WIMES compliant, and very competitive in price. They are fitted to our newly developed high lift Uniglide-e axially split, double entry pumps which are widely used for potable water pumping, and rated up to 20,000 cu.m. an hour.”

Veolia Water Ireland Ltd added: “The pumps are moving treated water against 6 bar from the Clareville Treatment Plant to a nearby reservoir for storage. As great flexibility is required in meeting the treatment plant output, the pumps and motor sets are fitted with variable speed drives, and we can also vary the duty cycles, with 1, 2 or 3 pumps coming on demand. The fourth pump set is maintained to cover any downtime for maintenance requirements.”

Patrick O’Neill, managing director of WEG UK, added: “The water industry is one of our biggest customers, and we recognise the need for our products and applications to be as energy efficient and cost saving as possible. It is one of the largest consumers of industrial electricity, due, in the main, to its wide use of pumping systems. With energy costs going up for all of us, it is very important for the water industry to invest in energy efficiency and limit price rises to the consumer.”
