Green Apple Award for environmental best practice

Posted: Tuesday 27th January 2009

Voith Paper Environmental Solutions (VPES) has won the Silver International Green Apple Award. The subsidiary of Voith Paper was distinguished for its combination of lime trap and R2S anaerobic reactor for saving water. The independent English “Green Organization” awards the renowned prize annually for sustainable projects and products.

On November 10, 2008, manager Werner Geßler accepted the prize in the English House of Commons parliament building. In addition, VPES was distinguished as a Green Hero for publication of its plan for saving water. “I am proud that our application for more sustainable paper production is officially recognized with this award,” Geßler said.

The Green Apple Award is regarded as one of the most coveted environmental awards in Great Britain and is recognized as a precondition for the “European Business Award for the Environment.” The jury awards prizes to companies, municipalities and individual persons in 25 categories for sustainable projects and products. The jury justified its selection of VPES with the consistent environmental commitment that the company pursues: “Voith supports purifying and recycling the water from paper production. With consumption of 20,000 liters of water for production of a ton of paper, that makes a big difference for the environment.”
