Extract of Barley Straw gets HSE Approval

Posted: Tuesday 19th April 2011

Problems resulting from algal and cyanobacterial blooms are causing many water utilities and aquatic leisure management organisations major headaches. The potential for de-oxygenation of both large and small bodies of water giving rise to fish kills, and for blooms of toxic cyanobacteria to necessitate the closure of reservoirs to public access, are two of the typical possible outcomes.

Ecopond, suppliers of a range of environmentally friendly water treatments, can now offer a safe and effective method for prevention and control of algae and cyanobacterial blooms.

Following extensive testing, Ecopond Extract of Barley Straw has been granted HSE Approval as an Aquatic Algaecide (HSE No. 9204). The product, which is available direct from Ecopond, has for some time been successfully marketed (under the AquaHydrotech brand) in the UK and overseas, where amongst other applications, it was used at the Beijing Olympics to maintain the quality of the water at the rowing venue.

The product will be of interest and benefit to owners and managers of large and small bodies of static or slow flowing water that experience algae problems.
