Eurofins has been awarded a €28 million contract to provide regulatory water testing and sampling services to Southern Water, a provider of water and waste water services to more than four million people across South East England.
Under the terms of a five year agreement, Eurofins will become the sole provider of regulatory and analytical water testing and sampling services to Southern Water.
Eurofins will also assume the laboratory assets currently located at Southern Water’s Falmer, Otterbourne and Chatham sites and the transfer of 132 Southern Water staff currently performing these services. Third party work currently conducted through Southern Water’s Scientific Services business unit will also transfer to Eurofins under the terms of the agreement. The agreement is conditional inter alia on the completion of an employee consultation period.
The transfer of staff and laboratory assets to Eurofins ensures continuity of expertise and high quality analytical and sampling services for Southern Water, while delivering efficiency gains and industry best practice support through partnering with a dedicated testing services provider operating a global laboratory network.
Commenting, Jon Crooke, Operations Director of Southern Water said, “Our agreement with Eurofins to provide testing and sampling services ensures that Southern Water can focus on its core business and secure efficiency gains and cost savings which will benefit customers. Both Southern Water and our external analytical services customers will continue to enjoy high quality analytical support provided by experienced people working for a specialist international testing services group”.
John Rowley, Managing Director of Eurofins Environmental Services Ltd said, “Our agreement with Southern Water represents an important and substantial step in Eurofins’ strategic development in the United Kingdom. Building on our existing environmental activities in the UK and Continental Europe, we look forward to providing Southern Water and its external analytical services customers with access to efficient, industry-leading analytical support and the expertise and resources available across our international laboratory network”.
