Environmental Biotech Goes Global
HAVING alleviated some of the worst drain line issues within the UK, the Essex based firm, Environmental Biotech, has expanded its operations to become a global company.
Environmental Biotech President, Aziz Tejpar, who became the UK representative of the US Company in 2002, decided to buy the entire Environmental Biotech International system, having had resounding success alleviating drain line blockages throughout the country.
Having provided drainage and odour solutions for companies such as McDonalds, ASDA, and Anglian Water to name a few, the South Woodham Ferrers based company is expanding into territories across the world to provide solutions to drainage issues caused by fats, oils and grease (FOG).
Utilising an environmentally friendly process known as bioremediation, billions of microbes are introduced into the system at staged intervals which literally consume all of the FOG, reducing it to harmless carbon dioxide and water.
Currently 50% of sewer overflows each year are caused by the incorrect disposal of FOG, costing water companies and their customers an estimated £25 million per year, with many countries stating the same figures, FOG is a global issue. In fact, Australia’s Sydney Water has introduced a drain management programme, while Singapore, New Zealand, Columbia, and more recently the Republic of Ireland, have all established franchises to tackle FOG.
Environmental Biotech also provides odour solutions to businesses, such as restaurants and pubs, by utilising a bio-enzyme which eradicates the smell of urine by attacking the uric acid crystals which cause the problem.
Aziz Tejpar said: “Think of the analogy of your arteries – in much the same way as the consumption of fat can cause severe health problems it can also cause a municipal heart attack. FOG and other by-products from cooking or producing meat, lard, butter, margarine, sauces or other diary products, all play a part.
“FOG attaches to the walls of sewer pipes, reducing the diameter through which water can flow. This eventually causes clogged drain lines resulting in sewage spills, costing organisations dear in reactive call-outs.”
Anglian Water Collection Manager, Gary Collins, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the results we have achieved with Environmental Biotech. Previous to installation, pump stations were breaking down on a near weekly basis, resulting in exorbitant call out charges. The results were so impressive that Anglian Water has introduced the system into other sites around the UK.”
