Careers website launched for young people
A comprehensive website for careers in the energy and utility sector, aimed at 14 to 19 year olds has been launched by Sector Skills Council Energy & Utility Skills (EU Skills).
The site offers advice for young people considering a career in the sector, and information on Apprenticeships. Unlike other careers websites that include general information on Apprenticeships, the EU Skills site provides specific information for the electricity, gas, water and waste management industries and collates information from employers on how to find a job.
The site was launched in response to research by EU Skills that found employers wanted to make the sector more attractive to young people. It is part of the EU Skills website and can be visited at: www.euskills.co.uk/careers.
The site covers important information about jobs for young people such as entry requirements, training and careers events across the UK. It offers advice on career progression, salary, “next steps” to take to start a career, games, and links to employers. The information on the types of jobs and Apprenticeships available in the industries are backed up by video and text case studies from young people doing similar jobs in the sector. EU Skills maintain the site regularly, and intends to expand it with more links to job vacancies and information on Higher Education and employers’ in the sector.
The site is easy to navigate and comprehensive in its coverage of the sector. EU Skills is currently promoting the site to careers advisors and schools.
Tracy Male,Information, Advice and Guidance Co-ordinator, EU Skills, says: “I am delighted to announce the launch of the Energy & Utility Skills careers website. There are many exciting careers in the electricity, gas, waste management, and water industries, which have great opportunities for progression, are well paid and are jobs where you can make a real difference.”
