Water Companies could benefit from C.Scope's significant BT tender win

Posted: Monday 10th September 2007

C.Scope, the Kent-based underground location specialists, have been awarded a highly sought after tender for BT, providing their Cable Avoidance Tool range in an initial three-year contract.

Overcoming significant tenders from their competitors, C.Scope were awarded the contract after fulfilling the unique requirements of BT’s needs. A number of distinctive products were requested, including Cable Avoidance Tools, Signal Generators, Signal Clamps, Metal Cover Detectors and a unique Rodding Oscillator, otherwise known as a Sonde. C.Scope was successful with every single item it bid for and has already begun supplying BT with these products.

“This is an exceptional win for our company,” says Paul Wells, Sales Director at C.Scope. “The BT tender was both exciting and daunting - exciting because it was the first opportunity we have had to bid for BT business since the launch of our highly successful and popular Cable Avoidance Tool range of locators, and daunting because we were required to create a Rodding Oscillator to BT specifications, from scratch, in little more then two weeks. Our research and development team dropped everything to design, create and develop the item and we know that BT was impressed by our commitment and speed of response.”

C.Scope visited a large number of field staff, whose requirement for C.Scope products covered a large variety of uses. “This trialling period proved invaluable to us,” says Paul Wells. “It meant that we were fully in tune with BTs locating needs as an organisation and it enabled us to show how versatile, functional and durable our products were.

“Of course it is not just British Telecom that benefits from the use of C.Scope pipe and cable locators. The financial advantages to a water company of using a good quality pipe and cable locator are doubled for the simple reason that there are two genuine uses for the equipment,” says Wells.

“Firstly, in order to maintain an existing pipe network efficiently it is essential to be able detect and identify, with confidence, the exact route of the pipes on site. The high quality visual response on the C.Scope locators and the versatility of their Signal Generators are ideally suited to this task. Therefore instances of empty holes or the wrong services altogether being dug up are kept to a minimum. Having determined the position of the excavation it is then essential to discover whether there are any other services in the area to avoid expensive third party damage claims and most importantly to ensure the safety of the workforce. Over the last seven years C.Scope locators have built a reputation for being able to reliably, quickly and simply warn the operator of the presence of other services,” he says.

C.Scope has already begun supplying BT with its equipment and will also provide on-site training to staff, as well as supplying its new tutorial CD-Rom, launched last month.
