Stormsaver and Fullflow deliver for G park

A state of the art distribution facility recently sold for nearly £18 million features the latest in drainage and rainwater harvesting technologies to ensure its new owners AXA REIM benefit from significant cost savings and water re-use.

Leading rainwater harvesting company Stormsaver and syphonic drainage specialists Fullflow completed the installation of the innovative water saving system at the 329,700 sq ft (30,630 sq m) distribution centre at G.Park Worksop earlier this year.

The system provides two thirds of the water required each year by the building’s flushing demand and will reduce the site’s water bill by over £1,000 per year.

Rainfall on to the building’s roof is drained at high velocity by the Fullflow system, which features just 144 outlets and 16 downpipes. Typically a Fullflow syphonic system uses up to 80% less downpipes, reduces installation time and ground works, offers greater design flexibility and can drain roofs up to eight times faster than gravity system alternatives

The water is fed into Stormsaver’s 9,600 litre tank via a pressurised system from where it is filtered and stored until needed, when it is pumped into the building’s WC and urinal system.

Unlike the majority of Stormsaver systems, this one features an above ground tank, positioned in a second floor plant room.

Ian Pamplin of Anderson Green, the M&E consultants on the project, specified the Stormsaver system because of the company’s ability to develop an above ground solution. “The build was incredibly quick, taking just six months to complete. With time being of the essence, digging up the hard standing to modify the drainage to allow an underground tank to be installed just wasn’t an option,” explains Ian. “I approached several rainwater harvesting companies and Stormsaver was the only one that was able to develop a solution for above ground installation and integration into the building’s existing drainage system.”

Anderson Green reported to Nik Chambers of C A Sothers, who was impressed with the way in which Fullflow, Stormsaver and he were able to work together.

“This project was unusual in that the Stormsaver tank had to sit in the second floor plant room. This presented us with an obstacle and the challenge of getting the tank into position and assembled on a very busy site,” he says. “We managed it though. There was full co-ordination and dialogue between Stormsaver, Fullflow and ourselves which meant the installation of both the syphonic drainage and rainwater harvesting systems went very smoothly indeed.”
