PMP UTILITIES completes complex repair at Loxley Water Treatment Works

Posted: Friday 3rd May 2019

PMP Utilities has recently completed a complex replacement of glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) pipe at Loxley Water Treatment Works on behalf of Morrison Utility Services and Yorkshire Water.

A confined space team from PMP Utilities, a part of M Group Services, completed the complex removal and replacement of a damaged section of glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) pipe at Loxley Water Treatment Works. The work was undertaken on behalf of MUS and Yorkshire Water in response to an emergency call-out.

The PMP team manufactured a repair clamp used as an emergency temporary repair, carried out overnight.

Using PMP’s in house fabrication facilities, the team manufactured the pipe inserts, repair clamps and spacers before returning to complete a permanent repair, based on dimensions and drawings created by the PMP team, and complicated double 90- to 45-degree bends modelled and re-manufactured in stainless steel.

Re-aligning the pipe and inserting it into the system without causing additional tension that could increase the risk of future potential failure was critical. The bespoke stainless steel inserts were inserted into the existing GRP to prevent any potential damage from the pressure of the connecting collars.

MUS Project Manager Andrew Deakin commented: “Yorkshire Water has expressed their gratitude at the team effort implemented by everyone involved that enabled the repair to be completed in a professional and timely manner. I can’t stress enough how impressed Yorkshire Water have been with their commitment and turnaround to get to this stage in the short time taken.” Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE
