NEW SLUDGE HEATER LAYOUT OVERCOMES SPACE PROBLEMS

Posted: Thursday 23rd December 2010

HRS Heat Exchangers have supplied a DTI corrugated tube in tube heat exchanger to Severn Trent Water for heating of digester sludge in an anaerobic digestion application.

At the STW in Leicestershire the Severn Trent engineers were experiencing problems with the existing “spiral” heat exchangers which were causing problems due to blocking, high pressure drops and inefficient operation.

HRS visited the site and carried out a survey with members of the Severn Trent engineering team, during this survey it was discovered that the space available for the new heat exchanger was extremely limited.

HRS design engineers overcame the space issue by offering Severn Trent a heat exchanger with a “Chevron” layout, this new layout allowed the heat exchanger to fit within the extremely limited width restrictions in the plantroom.

The unit is working up to and beyond specification and has eliminated the problems previously experienced by Severn Trent.
