Posted: Tuesday 25th November 2014

Metasphere Ltd is launching a new range of intelligent loggers called Point Colour. The units; Point Orange and an ATEX (Ex II 1G Ex ia IIB T4) version Point Blue, are designed to provide cost-efficient and flexible outstations that are multi-purpose and multi-functional.

Point Colour units are low-power battery operated IP68-rated GSM/GPRS-based compact logger that connects to DNP3 masters and support level 3 functionality.s.ninternal modem (GPRS with a option)and software . Remote management including minimise site maintenance They supporting up to life with an optional external battery for more demanding applications.hundredsGSM provide real time monitoring of up to five sensors and have an external serial port for connecting to intelligent sensors. The software has configurable I/O and includes support for AI, CI, DI and DO for example. Point Orange and Point Blue can therefore be used for countless applications.

Point Colour’s interoperability is assured with connectivity to Medina and, DNP3, with WITS DNP3 Mastersand WITS DNP3 Masters scheduled for release later this year. There is also provision for user programs with support for all IEC-61131 programming languages. Their capability is expansive; with a large logging capabilitythey have both a very large memory

– they can store up to 250 million records – and a large logging capability. The units provides long term secure data retention, dynamic data recording and intelligent alarm functionality. Advanced warning of flood threats is provided for via an internal immersion sensor.

Designed to be ‘plug and play’, they are simple to install with a modern intuitive configuration application. Installation time and costs are reduced as a result of both the flexible integrated installation bracket and a USB port for computer connection onsite. On-going maintenance costs will be kept low thanks to local contactless interaction.

“The units’ flexibility and substantial capability will be the key to their success,” claims Tim O’Brien, Metasphere’s CEO; “Point Colour does not provide a typical logging solution, it goes well beyond and in doing so, offers a range of products that are truly multi-purpose. We have also engineered in features that will reduce or eliminate some of the CAPEXOPEX and OPEX CAPEX costs involved; from lessening the need for site visits to the incorporation of industry standard protocols (i.e DNP3) direct data transfers using File Transfer Protocol and remote firmware upgrades.”

The development of Point Colour has been the result of a change in the how the company goes to market. Increasingly it is assessing marketing requirements and developing new products accordingly. O’Brien explains; “It means we are taking much greater commercial risk but those risks are calculated and are based on intelligence gathering within the industry and indepth discussions and greater participative teamwork with our clients.”

Metasphere Ltd, a provider of asset monitoring products and services has seen the successful installation of its MMIM mains powered RTUs in Panama City’s Metro System (Metro de Panama).

The Metasphere MMIM together with the STRATON IEC61131-3 programming language has been deployed on Line 1 of the metro system which currently links Los Andes County to the city centre. More lines are planned over coming years

Each station contains a MMIM to interface the SCADA system to lighting control panels. In addition an MMIM is deployed at each water pumping station and interfaces the SCADA to an ITT Flygt pump controller that controls between 2-4 pumps, depending on the station. These are used to pump out water from the train lines due to extreme rainfall and flooding.

The company’s North American partner, Au2mation, has worked on the project with Digital Lifestyle Panama, a specialist building automation and electrical system company contracted to undertake the project.
