Flex-Seal Continue Expansion Plans

Posted: Wednesday 26th April 2006

Flex-Seal, the global leaders in providing high performance flexible couplings used in low and non pressure applications, are pleased to announce the completion of a new warehouse extension at their Wombwell headquarters based in Barnsley (South Yorkshire).

“The last few years have seen a considerable increase in sales throughout our UK merchant networks and global distributors and subsequently we had to expand our warehouse and storage facilities in order to efficiently manage this ongoing growth,” states Tony Leyland, Managing Director for Flex-Seal.

Tolent Construction Limited, a national building and civil engineering company that operates across the public and private sector, were selected to build the extension and excavation began in November 2005 following the landmark “first dig” that was performed by HRH the Duke of Kent.

“Tolent Construction has proven to be an excellent partner for our project and they have provided us with full support since the work began last year. All work was successfully completed within the agreed budget and deadline and without any disruption to the day to day running of the Flex-Seal business,” Tony Leyland explains.

“Although it can be difficult to carry out construction work adjacent to a working environment, we found Flex-Seal to be extremely co-operative during the completion of the new extension,” states Geoff Bilton, Regional Manager for Tolent Construction Ltd.

The 12,000 sq ft extension will store an extensive stock of all Flex-Seal couplings and Fernco branded products which are available for quick distribution to the builders’ , plumbing and civil merchants or can be sent direct to site using Flex-Seal's fast, flexible and efficient service.

“These new facilities will enable us to continue to provide rapid distribution of our products throughout the world, whilst supporting our philosophy of customer service excellence.”

The additional warehouse facility marks the latest stage in Flex-Seal’s ongoing expansion plans.

“We are implementing a continuous growth strategy that will maintain our position of being the world’s number one flexible coupling manufacturer and a leading provider of drainage solutions,” Tony Leyland continues.

2004 saw the start of Flex-Seal’s long term development plan with the introduction of additional high output injection moulding machines for both the Flex-Seal rubber coupling range and the Fernco brand of thermoplastic plumbing products. Production levels have subsequently increased and Flex-seal is currently looking at further moulding and manufacturing technologies that will enhance the current capabilities.

In 2004 Flex-Seal also began the process of introducing new products following the launch of the Fernco Pipe Doctor, a new system for no dig pipe repair. Recent product developments have included Storm Drain, domestic channel drainage, and the TA Saddle, a faster and more economical method for contractors to connect laterals of 45° and 90° pipes to smooth walled sewer systems. New product development will continue during 2006 with several exciting launches planned throughout the year.

2005 saw the introduction of the Flex-Seal Care merchant service which is available across the United Kingdom. The service includes regional sales support vans that regularly visit stockist branches and enables the merchant to purchase products in between orders. This is a landmark initiative in the industry as the branch is able to buy out of stock or special products quickly, easily and conveniently from the vehicle thereby providing logistical benefits including reducing ordering and distribution lead times.

In terms of international activity, Flex-Seal has been extremely proactive in exporting their product range into new and emerging markets including Spain, Greece, Croatia, Saudi Arabia and India and the company will continue to evaluate regions around the globe that demonstrate considerable market opportunity, complement the company’s long term growth strategy and will enhance Flex-Seal’s current network of global strategic partners.

Flex-Seal, part of the Fernco Incorporated (USA) group of companies, are a global provider of high performance pipe connection and repair solutions including flexible couplings used in low and non pressure applications, PVC plumbing products, flexible saddles, ancillary products, channel drainage and no dig pipe repair systems.
