EXCELLENT FIRE RESISTANT AND ACOUSTIC PROPERTIES SEES ENSIGN DRAINAGE SPECIFIED FOR PIONEERING HOSPITAL

Posted: Thursday 1st November 2012

The non-combustible benefits and acoustic performance of the Ensign cast iron above ground drainage from iron technology leader Saint-Gobain PAM UK, part of leading international materials company Saint-Gobain, were two essential reasons for its specification at a pioneering hospital in Paddington, Central London.

St Mary’s Hospital, a general acute hospital that diagnoses and treats a range of adult and paediatric conditions, committed to the product for two key reasons. Being created from cast iron – a fire resistant material – guarantees a reduced risk of fire in the hospital, while the high-performing drainage product is one of the quietest available on the market, ensuring noise when transporting fluid waste is kept to a minimum.

The hospital is most famously known for its innovative use of robotic surgery, including the UK’s first da Vinci robot for keyhole surgery.

Gary Zumeris of Saint-Gobain PAM UK commented: “The Ensign product was the ideal choice for St Mary’s Hospital because of its safety and acoustic requirements. Cast iron provides a ‘fit and forget’ solution, plus the fact that the product is kitemarked to the latest standard BS EN 877 and tested for quality by the leading third party assessor means customers can be assured of its excellence every time.”

Specified by London-based engineering consultancy Genever and Partners, the Ensign drainage product was supplied by national distributor Ashworth.
