DENSO HI-TACK PROTECTS SWEATING AMMONIA TANKS
Posted: Friday 29th May 2009
Winn & Coales Denso Hi-Tack Tape was chosen to protect two large ammonia tanks (10ft tall x 40ft long) in a public service facility at Bastrop, Texas. It is one of several utilities provided by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) in Texas, including electricity and water supplies, water and wastewater utilities, flood management, and public parks.
Protecting the ammonia tanks from corrosion had been a continual battle due to constant sweating. After a long period of painting the tanks every three to five years, the LCRA engineers selected the Denso Hi-Tack Tape coating to give long-term corrosion protection. It was supplied by Denso North America Inc – USA, of Houston, Texas, a subsidiary of Winn & Coales International Ltd.
The scope of the work included hand tool cleaning the surface, application of a thin layer of Denso Hi-Tack Primer and a double layer of Denso Hi-Tack Tape to the tanks and steel support columns. The total surface area protected was approximately 3,100 sq.ft.
